Wanted: More Nigerian Entrepreneurs!

I began my journey to become an entrepreneur (social & internet) while I was still a student in the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. I didn’t start by calling myself an entrepreneur. I started by taking time (years) to read books and learn from both Nigerian and non-Nigerian entrepreneurs. I still do anyways.

Years down the line, I’ve become one but not on the full scale yet. And while I’m still a learner, i use this blog to teach others how to and what is needed to become an entrepreneur. You can read more article after your are through with this one.

If you are a follower of the trends of things in Nigeria, you would have realized that there is a dire need for more entrepreneurs in Nigeria. If our economy must succeed, then we need to develop more entrepreneurs who are capable of solving social problems, create values, create excellent product and services, create jobs, create our own cars, planes, computers, applications amongst many other things.

To help you get started, i came across a creed in 2008 during my National Youth Service (NYSC). The creed is called “Entrepreneurs Creed”. I took it to heart. You too should. It is as stated below;

Entrepreneur’s Creed

I do not choose to be a common person.
It is my right to be uncommon — if I can.
I seek opportunity — not security.
I do not wish to be a kept citizen,
humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.
I want to take the calculated risk,
to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.
I refuse to barter incentive for a dole;
I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence:
the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of Utopia.
I will not trade my freedom for beneficence
nor my dignity for a handout.
I will never cower before any earthly master
nor bend to any threat.
It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and
unafraid: to think and act for myself,
to enjoy the benefit of my creations
and to face the world boldly and say:
this, with God’s help I have done.
All this is what it means to be an entrepreneur.

Now that you have read the creed, take time to write it out, paste it on the wall of your bedroom and make sure you read it out loud every morning. It would help you a great deal. Pronounce the creed and let your day conform to it. I see more Nigerian Entrepreneurs emerge.

To know what next to do, pls go ahead and read the original post where I first read the Entrepreneurs Creed. Fortunately for you, the article is on one of Nigeria’s successful entrepreneur blog.
